ESSENDON Royals couldn’t rise to the occasion against promotion-chasing Epping City as the visitors to the Reggio Calabria Club won 4-1 on Saturday.
The Royals are no closer to the drop zone after a raft of postponements skewed the table in Football Federation Victoria provisional league 2 north-west at the weekend.
Essendon Royals (16 played, 20 points) are still six above the drop zone occupied by Laverton Park (14) and West Preston (-5) neither of whom played at the weekend.

In state league 3 NW, Avondale Heights drew 1-1 in its top-of-the-table clash with Sydenham Park and still managed to improve its standing in the promotion places. Third-placed Sporting Whittlesea lost 2-0 to resurgent Yarraville to leave Avondale Heights four points clear in second.
Sydenham Park (41 points) leads the table from the Heights (36) who have a game in hand on Sporting Whittlesea (32).
Provisional 1 NW was home of the postponement as both Moonee Valley-based clubs had away days called off.
Essendon United’s trip to Moreland United and FC Strathmore’s trip to Northern Falcons will now be played later.
