Moonee Ponds residents to fight high-rise plan

MOONEE Valley residents are preparing to fight another multi-level development planned for their suburb.

Moonee Valley Council has received an application for a seven-storey, 52-apartment complex at 521 Mount Alexander Road, Moonee Ponds.

Resident Rohan Mills said that if approved, the development would dwarf everything around it.

The application is likely to be heard by the council next month with several objections already received.

Mr Mills said the development would not fit with the existing neighbourhood character which included a two-story art deco building next door.

In recent months the council has rejected a number of controversial applications, including a five-storey development on Glass Street, Essendon and plans for the construction of an additional storey on a block of units at Ballater Street, Essendon.

The Glass Street decision is expected to be appealed to the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal.
