WINDY Hill-based North West Aquatic continues to be one of the powerhouse clubs of the west, underlined by a record medal haul at the 2009 Metro West District Swimming Championships.
Over 52 swimmers took to the pool over four days of competition with North-West Aquatic bringing home an impressive 14 gold, 10 silver and 12 bronze medals.
Head coach Cam Nation attributed the medal haul to six months of hard work from the swimmers.
"We've really stepped up the training volume for many of the kids this season, and the results are quite evident.
"When you consider that prior to last weekend we had only won seven district gold medals in five years of district competition, and then we go and win 14 at one meet, it's a sensational result and testament to the hard work the kids are putting in every day in the pool."
Front and centre on the medal dais was Emily Nicol.
The 15 year old reeled in five gold, breaking a number of long-standing district records in the process.
The future arrived in the form of Michael Comerford.
The 10 year old claimed four gold medals, one for a scintillating swim in the 100-metre backstroke where he blitzed the field by six seconds.
Other gold medallists were Joseph Lauricella, 17, in the 100-metre breaststroke, Lukas Steel, 13, in the 100m breaststroke, Kyle Zsembery, 11, in the 100m breaststroke and Julia McGennisken, 18, in the 100m butterfly and 100m freestyle.
North-West Aquatic was founded in early 2004 and has recorded some phenomenal results.
Boasting multiple national swimmers, state champions and district champions, the club fielded representatives at the XVIII FINA World Championships selection trials earlier in the year and one of their teenage swimmers has qualified to compete at the Commonwealth Games selection trials early next year.
"Six years ago we were just a small club starting up in the big world of swimming and now we're up there with some of the state's oldest and largest clubs," Nation enthused.
"We've got a good base of more than 300 swimmers, a great group of young coaches and the area's premier indoor aquatic facility at the Windy Hill Fitness Centre.
"However, what's most exciting is that our athletes are still improving and as a club we're still growing, so one can only imagine the success that lies ahead."
