THE people power generated by the internet can't be questioned in Essendon's latest coaching change.

Fan hub www.bomberblitz.com is home to 6100 registered members and the place where thousands of Essendon fans have vented their spleens in the six years since the club last won a final.

The sacking of Matthew Knights on August 29 resulted in 1500 users logging in to comment and read about the club's decision, while the Hird hiring last week was followed by the highest hit-count for the site since it started taking statistics four years ago.

Bomberblitz administrator and spokesman Nicholas Fogarty said one thread, started in April, that discussed the prospect of Hird coaching in 2011 was taken quite seriously within the club as a gauge of fans' opinions.

Since the Hird hiring, Fogarty said hype and excitement had been the main reactions from the Bomberblitz online community.

"I very much believe we're a sleeping giant, we're only going to get better next year and I think we could win more games than we lose."
