NWMCA: Heights in good form

31 Jan, 2012 12:00 AM
THE Big Bash League may be over but Twenty20 fans can get their fix tonight as the North West Metropolitan Cricket Association's penultimate round takes to the park from 5.30pm.

Strathmore Heights (three wins, one loss) can potentially seal progression to the quarter final as it takes on Westmeadows at Willowbrook Reserve.

However, division rival Moonee Valley 2 (1-3) is all but eliminated as it hosts Roxburgh Park at Ormond Park, needing both to win and have results go its way in other games.

The West division is a tale of haves and have-nots, with Buckley Park (4-0) top of the pool while the other quarter-final spots are occupied by Moonee Valley 1, Kealba-Green Gully and Sydenham-Hillside (all 3-1) ahead of fifth-placed Royal Park Reds (1-3).

Moonee Valley can ensure it plays in the quarter finals by beating Ascot Vale (0-4) at Fairbairn Park.

The loser of Maribyrnong Park-St Marys (1-3) and Aberfeldie-St Johns (1-3) at Walsh Oval will be eliminated, while the victor will still need favourable results in other games to remain in contention.

Buckley Park will look to defend its record of being the last remaining undefeated Twenty20 team as it travels to Green Gully Reserve to play Kealba-Green Gully.

The final round of Twenty20 matches will be played next Tuesday.

In George Luscombe Shield, Buckley Park posted 305 batting first against Burnside Springs on day one of a two-dayer.

Wes Telford (57), Anthony Haseloff (68) and Dean Erdman (57) were top scorers. Burnside Springs finished at 1-8.

In Vic Kyte Shield, Strathmore Heights rolled Pascoe Vale United for 114 before reaching 1-86 at stumps.
