ABL: Rain keeps Aces from coming up trumps

10 Jan, 2012 12:00 AM
RAIN denied the Melbourne Aces a weekend hat-trick against the Adelaide Bite in Australian Baseball League at the Melbourne Showgrounds on Saturday night.

After romping to a 13-5 win on Friday night and a 4-2 win on Saturday, the Aces were battling tied 4-4 through 10 innings with Adelaide when play was suspended.

The Aces sported a 14-19 record after the Saturday afternoon win, sitting fifth of six in the ABL but just four games back from the second-placed Bite.

The Aces' next home series starts on January 18 against the Canberra Cavalry. The team heads to Brisbane this weekend.

In the state summer league, Essendon resumes its chase of the minor premiership at home against fellow contender Geelong this Sunday.

The 15-2-1 Bombers (first) will square off against the 13-2-1 Baycats (second) from 3.30pm Sunday at Boeing Reserve.
