FOR all her youth, Moonee Ponds resident Victoria McCann has a wise head on her shoulders.
At 17, and about to enter her final year of school at Strathmore Secondary College, Victoria could be forgiven for being solely dedicated to her studies and social life.
Instead, while preparing for the school year, she's also actively recruiting and promoting a Moonee Valley 'youth summit' to be held in April.
The goal of the summit is simply to make Moonee Valley a better place for its younger citizens.
Victoria says the summit will no doubt discuss "big-picture issues" like drugs, alcohol and mental health, but it would also be a chance to be specific about the local area.
"This area has been great to me growing up, so I think it's good to give back [to the community] and keep working to make it a great place for young people."
Victoria also volunteers as the chair of the Youth Advisory Forum, which regularly consults the council on matters concerning young people.
She hopes people across the municipality will help organise and run the first Moonee Valley youth summit.
Moonee Valley mayor Jim Cusack said it was important for all citizens to have a voice.
"The youth summit will be a great platform for young people to have an input on matters directly relevant to them.
''I particularly value the fact that young people are in charge of organising and running the summit - they will set the agenda."
