Moonee Ponds cafe's out to make a difference

02 Aug, 2011 12:00 AM
CHARITY group StreetSmart is encouraging cafes across Moonee Valley to join the CafeSmart campaign and raise money for homeless projects in the region.

To coincide with National Homeless Persons week, cafes taking part in the CafeSmart campaign will donate $1 from every coffee sold on Friday.

The money will be distributed to relevant charities.

StreetSmart supports services and emergency aid programs for the homeless in Melbourne, as well as projects that promote social inclusion.

The family team at Garden Tuscany cafe will be counting its beans on Friday to help the charity.

Cafe owner Stella Maurici said her son Ricki told her about the CafeSmart program.

"We as a family are often making donations to different charities. If we all gave a little bit... it would really make a difference.

''If more cafes joined up, imagine the money that could be raised."

Garden Tuscany is at 32 Young Street, Moonee Ponds.

Sounds like a good reason to enjoy a great tasting coffee in Moonee Ponds. Well done to the Maurici's for helping out the homeless with such a worthy cause. All the best on Friday.
