Burke and Wills stopped here

24 Jan, 2012 01:37 PM
A PLAQUE to commemorates Burke and Wills' first stop in Moonee Valley during their 1860-61 expedition will be unveiled on Australia Day.

The plaque was donated by Dr Ross Bastiaan, who will be a guest speaker at its unveiling ceremony.

Dr Bastiaan is an amateur historian who has recognised a need to introduce people to events and places of historical significance.

Made out of a single casting of bronze, the plaque is the first of a series of 13 plaques that will mark the route of the expedition from Melbourne to the Gulf of Carpentaria.

This plaque is being placed within the Queens Park camel art installation.

The plaque ceremony will start at noon.
