ESSENDON Football Club has officially begun work on its new high-performance centre at Melbourne Airport with the turning of the first sod last Wednesday.
Chairman David Evans said the development, which started as "a pipedream" two years ago, would provide players and coaches with the state-of-the-art facilities.
The new centre will be the largest and most flexible training space in the AFL, with elite gym, medical, recovery and sport science facilities.
It will also include two ovals - one the size of the MCG, the other the same size as Etihad Stadium.
The Australian Paralympic Committee will also base its Victorian headquarters at the centre.
