IT’S taken for granted when you post a letter in Australia, no matter how remote your location, within a couple of days it will arrive safe and sound. But, it hasn’t always been the case.
In 1995, as Australia headed full-steam into the modern era, Moonee Ponds resident Jim Marshall was selected by Australia Post to head a team to implement major changes to how the service managed the incredible volume of mail it handled.
By 2000, the system was implemented andover the next decade, Mr Marshall continued to oversee and manage the revolutionary system.
For his tireless work improving the mail system, Mr Marshall has been announced as a recipient of a Public Service Medal as part of this year’s Australia Day Honours.
